Illustration Thesis
A story about life… For some.
Work your hardest, and you will succeed,
and when you win the race, you’ll get your trophy.
But that’s not typically the case is it? Mose of us work harder than ever, but only watch from the outside while others celebrate.
Sometimes, it can we smothering — your dream feeling like a pie in the sky, unreachable with the mountain of your life in the way.
But if you never give up, if you work harder and harder, eventually it’ll pay off.
Even if it doesn’t pay off the way you want, you will find success as long as you endlessly work for it
With enough work, luck & perseverance, that boyhood dream could even become a reality.
But these paintings, this story, only show an outlook on life in a white man's perspective. But it's only one story.
Working hard doesn't always equal success for minority people with less access and privilege. Many people of color have to work twice as hard as I do to get to where I am because of the circumstances they were born into.
So for these reasons, I'm shedding this story. I'll work as hard as I can like I normally would, but once I become a person of influence someday, it won't be for me. It will be so that I can use my privilege and access to be someone who can recognize those people jumping through more hoops than others, and champion them.
Because those people will drive our future forward.
Process
It doesn’t have to be success in that way, though. Some, even most, just want to find happiness and settle down somewhere. That, too, can come as long as you’re looking for it.
